Meet Chitra Shirvaikar, a singer by passion and vice-principal by profession. Her first DVD album has got good response. Expressing her delight, she says, “It feels great to cut my third music album. My previous two albums had tracks with no videos. However, my current album is a DVD, in which I have actors singing and dancing to the songs.”
“This time I switched over to DVD as it is in a trend now to make an album that has videos,” says Chitra, who incorporated young actors in her video album.

Chitra, who has come across with several Konkani albums related to either political or social issues, believes that there was a need of one love album too. “Romantic, heartbroken and emotional songs are liked by youngsters as well as elderly crowd. And I felt that monsoon was the best season to come up with such type of album when love blossoms. My album ‘I miss you’ is all about love. In fact, in one of the songs my personal life story also seen reflecting - ‘Y did you break my heart?’ shares Chitra.
“Please, do not ask me anything about my personal life as I am not comfortable talking about it,” Chitra quips.
This singing sensation on Konkani stage narrates her journey into music, “I have always been attracted to singing on stage since childhood. I inherited singing skills from my mother Late Sangeeta Shirvaikar, who was also a stage singer. She was an inspiration for me to overcome my stage fear.”
How do you manage your time between your passion and profession? She explains, “There are many women out there who live a life similar to me. If they could balance it so well then I do not think for me there is any problem. Being a vice principal-singer-actor it is a great thing. Besides, I feel good being at home with my sweet daughter too. In fact, this album is dedicated to her. You won’t believe my day starts at 4 in morning and ends late at night. I only say that ‘Where there is a will there is a way!”
